Once in our old home we had an alarm system installed. It had wires and transmitters and was all quite confusing. Today it's much easier, with wireless types of systems. Wireless alarm benefits are plenty. They install easy, have a wide range of coverage, and it's easy to add points of security. Now you can buy kits and they are so simple to install you can do it yourself. Some types can even connect to your PC and you can monitor the entire house from a web site half way around the world. This is a great way to keep you peace of mind. You can click on and see that the monitors are still all connected and can even see with cameras what is not going on. Another nice thing is that you don't have to worry that if the power goes off that you won't have an alarm system. Most systems have a backup with battery, but who remembers to check those? Deb looked over all the systems and thought that we should go with a wireless system. That way we could install them ourselves and that would be that. We bought a system and had it installed in a couple of hours. We tested it and it worked. This was the best way to go, we thought.
When we finally settled on an organizer for the family room closet we decided to go with a simple wire arrangement. Wire closet organizers come in all sorts of types. Some are really complex with shelving and racks and even small compartments. We looked at a number of stores and looked online and finally found what we were looking for. We had a hard time fitting the box in the SUV. We have a small SUV, so fitting it in was a problem, but after folding the seats down I was able to just get it in. I had to slam the tail gate to do it. This was going to be my weekend project. First Debbie had to get the rest of the stuff out of the closet. I helped her to stack the stuff in a corner of the room and we began to do some measuring for the kit. I opened the box and pulled the pieces out. I wanted to have lunch before I got going, though. Debbie ordered a pizza and we started drilling and putting the pieces together. We worked until late at night, fitting it the way we wanted. We could never seem to settle on what design we wanted. Finally we were happy with what we did and called it quits.
I had really considered getting hair transplants when I started losing my hair. I thought that I was too young to be bald, and I wasn’t about to get a wig. I don’t have a good enough memory to remember to take a pill every day or to apply some cream every night before I go to bed, and somehow I don’t buy into the advertisements that some special shampoo will magically help me to grow my hair back. So transplants seemed to me like the most logical option, because I wanted something that was going to work and I wanted to get it all out of the way in one shot. I found the website of a local place that performed hair transplants and the pictures that they advertised looked very natural. I set up an appointment and went in to the clinic for a consultation, which I thought was going very well – until they told me the cost… Ten thousand dollars. Where in the world was I going to get ten thousand dollars to pay for new hair? I guess I’ll just hold onto whatever hair I have until it starts to look silly, then I’ll just shave it off – after all, bald is beautiful right?
This seemed like the best of the local diabetes treatment plans, but I was disappointed with my first meeting. There were only two other people there. One man was in his 90's. This surprised me, and gave me some hope too. If he was that old and living with the disease then there is hope for everybody. He was quite active and talked a bit. He was still working five days a week too, talk about Superman. He could have retired years ago, but he didn't know what to retire to. He is an accountant, and his busy season is coming up, tax time. He takes several vacations a year, and not motor coach blue hair type of trips. His last trip was an Amazon cruise. He said he really enjoyed the trip, but that he wanted to really get back in the jungle and see what was going on with the natives. He was new at this program too, and he was hoping it would be a bit more lively. An person from the hospital finally greeted us, and said that usually there were about fifteen people who participate. She said to come to the meeting the following Tuesday and that there would probably be more people. The first meetings of the year always are the slowest, due to the weather and people being busy.
The alarm clock went off, scaring me to death. Five o’clock in the morning? Why did I set it for so early?? Then I remembered; Lasik eye surgery. I’d only been dreading this day for a month, ever since Dr. Steinfield prescribed the operation. I nudged my husband; he was to drive me to and from the hospital, having managed to get a day off from work. “Fred. Fred! Get up, it’s time to leave!” Fred yawned, stretched, groaned, and looked like he was getting ready to return to his snoring and slumber. “Fred.” “I know, sweetie, OK,” Fred muttered, rubbing his eyes. Before we knew it we were checking in, and there was Harriet from down the block, reading Ladies’ Home Journal in the lobby. “Joe’s having bypass surgery,” she whispered to us. She sounded happy about it! “All right, honey, you go ahead and sign in and I’ll keep Harriet company,” Fred said, winking at me. “You better not try anything funny,” I laughed. Oh, was I frightened. The next thing I knew we were getting back in the car! Was it really over, that quick? My pupils were dilating like they were running a marathon, but otherwise—I felt fine! “Mickey D’s, anyone?” Fred burst out, turning the radio to his favorite rock station, way too loud.
Media exposure. When it comes to launching a new business or product, some marketing consultants might say that every product is appropriate for a publicity or media exposure campaign. When starting a successful business venture or launching a new product, most entrepreneurs or business owners conduct some type of marketing research to determine the extent of their prospective customer base.
These are the business owners who know their product and market inside and out, but, they have never thought about launching a publicity/media exposure campaign before now
When providing market sensitive media training, trainers should explain to the spokesperson, the importance and role media play, how the training can benefit them.
If you have a new or under-publicized product, the media could be a good friend to you. It would help if you can get a quality targeted press release written or have your press release distributed to targeted media contacts.. Make sure you send your press release to the appropriate department at whichever media outlets you select.
Don't make the mistake of sending a press release to a group of general media sources in hopes that someone will pick up the story. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that even a well-written press release will work on the first go-around since a lot depends upon whether the media thinks it’s newsworthy. This includes archived press releases, full biographies of you and your management team, publication-ready logos and photography, a history of your firm, and anything else that will grease the wheels of media coverage.
One of the first steps in defining a public relations strategy is to understand how you and your competition stack up in terms of media coverage. Once you’re comfortable talking to the media you should take a proactive approach to your media relations. Although the host agreed not to charge my client, it made me wonder how pervasive this practice is, and whether media relations professionals should ever take advantage of this type of pay for play.
Once you’ve proved yourself as a useful and dependable information source, you’ll realise it can; help to get your story into a news cycle, and provide opportunities for the media to approach you for comment on appropriate stories which in turn helps a journalist add depth, by filling gaps or backing up information, to their story. The media take the huge mass and swirl of information out there every day and spin it, by a process that seems magical but isn’t, into what we all call news.
The media take a raw ingredient – information – and condense, distill, sort, and package it into a product called news. So if you don't like the idea of being a million entries down on a web search, or even 60 entries down, consider a low-cost, effective alternative – the media. Your word about a new trend in investing or the latest tip for retirement planning might be enough to get a media person interested, but it usually won't be enough information for them to write a whole article or create a television segment.
There is one exception to the previous tip: if you personally know a reporter, or you have a mutual friend, it’s fine to call that person even if you know they aren't the right reporter. Sometimes, when you are doing a great job of keeping on topic, the reporter is leading to you talk about different topics, some of which you aren't as knowledgeable about. You might think a solution is just to avoid the reporter – but remember – a reporter will show up when you don’t expect him, and if you refuse to talk to him, he will play the videotape of your hand covering the camera for weeks.
