I watch way too much TVV. Since losing my job, and after bankruptcy robbed me of the ability to go out and do something fun or worthwhile with my time all I do is sit at home and watch the news. I used to watch cartoons, sitcoms and reality shows but I somehow managed to convince myself that if I was sitting on my couch watching the news it was somehow better. Or at least makes me a more well rounded person. In the last couple of weeks since I've started watching nothing but the news channels, I've realized that the news is just another form of entertainment. All the images shown are carefully selected and manipulated to make us think of feel one way or another. People forget how powerful images can be. It's really quite amusing, as long as you don't take it too seriously. For example do you ever notice how if they are talking to a professor he is always sitting in front of a bookcase? Or say if it's a diplomat or something, they've got a map on the wall behind them. It's like well, that guy's got a map. He must know what he's talking about, right? It's pretty hilarious if you start looking for the little subliminal clues like that. Of course too much TV has probably fried my brain, so what do I know?
