This seemed like the best of the local diabetes treatment plans, but I was disappointed with my first meeting. There were only two other people there. One man was in his 90's. This surprised me, and gave me some hope too. If he was that old and living with the disease then there is hope for everybody. He was quite active and talked a bit. He was still working five days a week too, talk about Superman. He could have retired years ago, but he didn't know what to retire to. He is an accountant, and his busy season is coming up, tax time. He takes several vacations a year, and not motor coach blue hair type of trips. His last trip was an Amazon cruise. He said he really enjoyed the trip, but that he wanted to really get back in the jungle and see what was going on with the natives. He was new at this program too, and he was hoping it would be a bit more lively. An person from the hospital finally greeted us, and said that usually there were about fifteen people who participate. She said to come to the meeting the following Tuesday and that there would probably be more people. The first meetings of the year always are the slowest, due to the weather and people being busy.
