As a kid, I used to wear those thick, bulging coke bottle glasses around all the time. Without them, I could barely see. I’d walk into walls and parked cars. Of course I needed them in school to see the blackboard and read from the textbooks and, yeah, I wasn’t that popular. Believe it or not, I was actually stuffed into lockers and they weren’t that big. I desperately sought freedom from glasses. Then as I grew older, my vision also started growing stronger and stronger. I didn’t need laser surgery done on my eyes or anything like that. My eyes just grew stronger. I think it was at least partly because I did a lot of reading. Then again, I had to. Back in those days, my best friend was whatever book I was reading. Science fiction, fantasy, historical, westerns. For some reason, I even read a lot of romance novels though I didn’t like any of them. When my vision improved, so did my coordination, probably because I could now actually see where I was going. And since I ran away from bullies all the time, I was pretty fast. Imagine my shock when I made the baseball team and became one of their starting pitchers. All because of my freedom from glasses.
